TopHuis® is a flexible, safe and sustainable design that allows new MMC homes to be built above underused land whilst minimising disruption for the existing users.

Flexible

Simple unobtrusive design works in most locations, keeping existing buildings or car-parks in use whilst minimising disruption.
Flexibility of TopHuis® with the ubiquity of underused land allows larger contracts to be tendered across many sites, raising quality and speed, whilst reducing cost.
Design-led approach, enhanced by local architects, gives variety and allows construction by any manufacturer or builder in any safe material.

Promotes Wellbeing

Two open air escape decks are much safer than one internal fire corridor and protect people, rooms and buildings from extreme sun and rain as the climate changes.
Front veranda-style deck encourages neighbours to meet, provides space to grow plants and is good for mental health and diet, the rear deck gives privacy.
Dual aspect flats provide lots of light and natural ventilation, open air deck access reduces transmission of viruses.
Gardener-caretaker role (planning requirement) keeps plants healthy, maximises BNG, enhances safety and security. Building is easy to fix or clean without scaffolding.

Sustainable

Retaining embodied carbon of existing buildings allowing optimum energy efficiency standards to be achieved more economically.
Living centrally in towns and cities reduces travel times and emissions, whilst increasing people's productivity.
Home grown produce reduces food miles and the cost of living.

TopHuis® combines several established construction techniques and design features in a unique combination to provide maximum flexibility for building new homes on all classes of underused land, and is subject to copyright and patent office protection as UK Registered Designs ref. 6349483-6349498.

Protecting our designs in this way gives our partners the confidence that their derived designs will not be copied in the UK. Similar patented protection applications for TopHuis® are underway in Europe and North America.
