Maidstone Travelodge

The site was once the location of Maidstone gasworks where town gas was manufactured many decades. As a result the ground was very contaminated so our proposals had to ensure the safety of contractors working on the site during construction, neighbours living nearby and people using the site after completion.

The scheme comprises a 6 storey, 111 bed hotel located at the southern end of the site in an L-shaped building with curved ends and corner that addresses St Peter’s Church, the River Medway and the surrounding buildings and roads. The retail units are located to the north of the site, addressing and finishing off the existing retail development and car park there, and are designed to harmonise with the design of the retail unit across the road, and the new hotel.
